Looking to buy…
I’m partial to a bit of Neil Diamond, Boney M and James Last but these (and many more) are pretty easy to find in charity shops so please don’t be offended if I’m not interested in what you have to offer. See a list of some of the stuff I’m definitely not interested in buying.
Ideally I’m looking for collections of 200+ records in VG+ condition or better.
Genres
I don’t have a list of records that I’m looking to buy but there are some broad categories of interest which may help – this is in no way an exhaustive list.
If the info below doesn’t help feel free to send me and email or give me a phone – contact me
Rock / indie / punk / psych / garage / 90’s indie / Brit pop / Krautrock / Prog Rock
Reggae / Dub / Ska / Dancehall / Roots / Rockers / Deejay
Soul / funk / Jazz
Hip hop / Trip Hop
Techno / Ambient / House / Jungle / Drum & bass
Artists
An a-z list of some of the artists i would be interested in buying.
The Beatles
People naturally believe that their Beatles records will be worth some money. In the majority of cases this is not true – there are often far more interesting records in your collection that you’ll have overlooked.
Why? The Beatles sold records by the million and therefore there’s now no shortage of supply (even of the early presses of their albums). Combine this with the fact that the people who are currently buying vinyl don’t seem that interested in the Beatles (maybe they’ve already raided their parents’ or grand parents’ collections for their copy of Revolver).
Record labels
There are thousands of great record labels, below is a list of some of the ones of particular interest to me.
- Creation
- Trojan
- Studio One
- Greensleeves
- Blue Note
- Stax
- Impulse
- 4AD
- Rough Trade
- Soul Jazz
- Blast First
- Virgin
- Island
- Charly
- Atlantic
- Rhino
- Motown
- RCA
- 2 Tone
- Domino
- Factory
- Def Jam
- Matador
- Elektra
- Edsel
- Warp
Limited editions – don’t believe the hype
Limited editions are a marketing tool of major record labels, often not very limited at all in terms of the number of copies pressed. More likely than not you’ll have other records in your collection that are rarer, more collectable and worth more.
Formats
I’m really just interested in vinyl records, mainly 12″ LPs but will also consider 7″, 10″ and 12″ singles.
I know nothing about 78s and can’t help you with those I’m afraid
CDs
Most CDs aren't worth a great deal and in the majority of cases I advise people to use an online service like Music Magpie to sell your CDs. You won't get much for them but the process is quick and easy.
I may be interested in some rarer CDs - things that are out of print or not avaliable on streaming services. If you scan the barcodes and Music Magpie offers you more than £1 for a CD you might have something that's a bit more interesting. If you have anything like this feel free to get in touch.
